A little history:

Lake Austin is an artificial reservoir on the Colorado River in Austin, Texas, USA. Lake Austin was created in 1939 by the Lower Colorado River Authority (LCRA) as a cooling pond for a new city power plant.

The original lake was only about a third of its current size and was primarily used for industrial purposes. However, in the 1950s and 1960s, residential development began to spring up around the lake, and it gradually became a popular recreational spot for boating, fishing, and water sports.

Built nearly 70 years ago as Lake Austin Lodges—a fishing camp with a few guest rooms and several boat slips, this Austin gem has undergone a number of transformations including the Sunshine Nudist Camp; Steiner Ranch Rodeo Camp; The Bermuda Inn, Reducing Resort; and finally, as it is known today—Lake Austin Spa Resort.

Lake Austin Spa Resort adventuregirl.comThe vision of its owners since 1997—Michael McAdams and William Rucks—transformed the property into a world-class spa resort honored by a multitude of publications, including Condé Nast Traveler Reader’s Choice Awards – #1 Resort in Texas & the Southwest, Condé Nast Traveler’s #1 Destination Spa, Travel + Leisure World’s Best Awards – #1 Hall of Fame U.S. Destination Spa, and most recently, American Airlines’ Celebrated Living Magazine 2016 Platinum List – One of the Top Ten Wellness Hotels in the World.

Today, Lake Austin is a source of drinking water and hydroelectric power and a popular destination for outdoor enthusiasts and tourists. It has over 20 miles of shoreline and is surrounded by luxurious waterfront homes, restaurants, and hotels. The lake is known for its crystal-clear waters and abundance of largemouth bass, making it a favorite among anglers.
